Construction is beginning soon on The Iris at San Ysidro, a four-story, transit-oriented development that will serve families earning between 25% and 60% of the San Diego County area median income.
The development, which breaks ground on Dec. 14, will provide 100 apartment homes, including 42 one-bedroom homes, 32 two-bedroom homes and 26 three-bedroom homes (including one for an onsite manager). Fifteen one-bedroom apartments will be set aside as permanent supportive housing for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
Amenities will include a community room, private offices for case management services, a courtyard and children’s play area, balconies and outdoor gathering areas. The development is within a half mile of an elementary school, a trolley station, bus lines and family health facilities and employment zones.
The Iris will incorporate the latest in sustainable construction features and is expected to earn LEED certification.
In addition, National CORE is investing funds to revitalize a community park across the street, adding road repairs and a crosswalk to ensure community safety.
