Meet Gaetano “Tom” Pentolino, National CORE’s new controller.

Tom will help National CORE with tasks such as organizing and preparing financial analysis of operations, including interim and final statements. He is also responsible for the company’s accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports. The controller position involves supervision over corporate accounting, property accounting and accounts payable functions.

Tom joins our organization with more than 16 years of public and private accounting experience and an energy that matches National CORE’s mission to transform lives and communities.

“It really resonates with me how National CORE stands behind its mission. You can tell it’s not just about providing affordable housing – it’s about making this a temporary situation for residents and actually helping them get back on their feet,” Tom said. “National CORE guides residents to obtain their own home and provides residents various educational tools and resources through the various foundations they have.”

Tom began his career as an auditor, dedicating more than six years with Ernst & Young. He most recently served as director of accounting at April Housing, a Blackstone Portfolio company, which oversees one of the nation’s largest low-income housing tax credit portfolios with more than 90,000 affordable housing units. Prior to that he spent six years at Majestic Realty Co., where he served as controller and oversaw the property accounting of a large portfolio consisting of industrial, office, retail and hospitality spaces.

Tom said his passion is in real estate and he loves working with other departments and meeting new people.

“When I’m integrated with other departments and collaborating with them – that’s what excites me,”
Tom said. “It makes me feel like I’m part of the bigger mission and the bigger goal.”

Tom describes himself as a “local guy” – having earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from University of California, Riverside before obtaining his master’s in accounting from the University of Virginia. He and his wife live in San Bernardino County with their two sons.

He enjoys spending quality time with his family, embarking on day trips and enjoying live music events.

“Right now, I’m doing my best to soak up the culture of National CORE – from everyone on my team as well as other departments,” Tom said. “Everybody has been just so warm and welcoming. It truly has been a great start.”
