CORE Academy is celebrating a new chapter of growth, expanding its free workforce training classes in property management and property maintenance to locations in San Diego and Los Angeles starting this fall.

The new opportunities are part of an expansion funded in part by a $1.69 million Opportunity Young Adult grant awarded to Hope through Housing by the state Employment Development Department in April.

Classes will soon be offered at Villa Serena in San Marcos and Little Lake Village in Los Angeles. Both locations were selected for their classroom size and accessibility, ensuring that residents and community members can step into training with ease.

“This expansion marks an incredible step forward for CORE Academy,” said Jennifer Mehle, director of workforce development for Hope through Housing Foundation. “By bringing workforce training directly into our communities, we’re not only opening doors to careers in property management and hospitality but also creating pathways to stability and long-term success across Southern California.”

Launched in collaboration with National CORE, one of the nation’s leading developers and managers of affordable housing communities, CORE Academy has built a reputation for preparing individuals for careers in property management and hospitality, two of California’s fastest-growing industries.

More than 33,000 property managers will be needed in the coming years, a 9% to 10% increase, according to the California Employment Development Department.

CORE Academy leaders have also launched training programs in social media marketing and podcast production. Already, the program has graduated its first cohort of interns, with two moving on to three-month apprenticeships.

Next up is the development of a hospitality tract. California leads the nation in hospitality and leisure, an industry that remains a gateway to opportunity. Many entry-level roles don’t require a degree, but training programs make graduates far more competitive and open doors to positions like front desk associates, restaurant supervisors, event coordinators or property assistants.
