Our newest affordable housing community, Greenbrier Village, has achieved LEED for Homes Gold certification form the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The latest certification brings to 26 the number of LEED-certified properties National CORE owns and manages, about a quarter of the total portfolio. The list includes seven Platinum-certified properties and 18 Gold-certified communities.

LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the world’s top green building rating system. The rating covers a range of metrics, from sustainable building materials to energy use. National CORE received an overwhelming seven LEED certifications in August, September and October.

“It’s been a tremendous year for the sustainability program, now capped with our Greenbrier certification,” said Tim Kohut, director of sustainability. “These certifications represent our deep commitment to preserving natural resources and ensuring our residents enjoy the healthiest and most efficient communities.”

Greenbrier Village – a 60-apartment, all-electric community opened in mid-2024 – is our first new construction project funded through California’s Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing program, more frequently a partner in converting older properties to cleaner, solar energy. Approaching Zero Net Energy use, Greenbrier features high-efficiency heat pump systems for water heating and HVAC.

“We are building communities of exceptional quality, which isn’t easy to do,” Tim added. “These developments will stand the test of time, as well as being exceptionally beautiful.”
