At Hope through Housing, we believe that behind every door is a unique story, and our mission is to help residents unlock new opportunities. Mary-Elizabeth spent seven years drifting between streets and shelters before finding stability at Greenbrier Village. Then there’s Yesenia, a young mother aging out of foster care, who is building a brighter future for her family with the support of compassionate mentors.

These are just a few of the lives Hope through Housing has touched as part of our partnership with National CORE to provide permanent supportive housing (PSH) for vulnerable populations – an effort now ready for a bold new chapter.

These stories inspire us and fuel our purpose. After five years of coordinating critical permanent supportive housing (PSH) services through our Unlocking Opportunities program, Hope through Housing is now taking a more direct role: providing these services firsthand at Greenbrier Village. We work closely with residents, helping them maintain housing, rebuild their lives and truly thrive.

“Permanent supportive housing is meant to help people build themselves back up,” said AJ Galka, Hope through Housing’s director of permanent supportive housing and residential services. “We jump in and help them stabilize so they can stay in their homes for the long term.”

Working with partners such as PATH and Mercy Housing, Hope through Housing serves 762 PSH households at 32 National CORE properties, with 587 new households in development at 23 new properties. Residents include formerly homeless individuals, developmentally disabled adults and transitional age youth.

And, as the need for these services continues to grow, AJ and her team ensure that residents receive the care and support they deserve, creating personalized pathways for each resident as part.

Services include case management support, financial coaching, mental, physical and behavioral health programs, employment development and social connectedness activities.

The program has grown tremendously since its inception in 2020 – with a strong presence in San Diego, Riverside, Los Angeles counties and a plan to establish programs in Texas. As Hope through Housing continues to grow, so too does its impact – offering hope, stability and a brighter future for those who need it most.

“We meet people where they’re at,” AJ said. “We use services strategically to ensure that our residents remain housed, and that varies case by case. We dive a little deeper so that we can connect residents to their long-term goals.”

National CORE and Hope through Housing are leaders in their respective fields, collaborating to foster a welcoming environment driven by strong healthy communities that provide residents with the highest quality of life.

“If we can help our residents open the door to opportunities, we can offer hope and, in the process, change their lives forever,” AJ said.
