Legacy Square, a 93-home affordable housing community developed by National CORE, the City of Santa Ana and the Santa Ana United Methodist Church, has been named the 2024 OC Project of the Year.
“Legacy Square is a model for what is possible,” National CORE President Mike Ruane said. “It represents the power of deep public-private partnerships and innovative approaches to creating affordable housing solutions that serve the entire community.”
The development, which opened in mid-2023, hits multiple marks for innovation, resident-focus and leadership. First, it is one of our first church partnerships, which reduces costs and boosts community connections. Second, the community earned a rare LEED for Homes Platinum certification, putting it among the elite for sustainability.
Third, Legacy Square places a priority on eco-friendly transit options, including an incredible onsite bike repair program. Fourth, building on strong community support, National CORE secured a $10.4 million Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant to invest in community improvements, including upgraded commuter rail lines, bike paths, safer routes to school and a park.
Add to this our incredible services from Hope through Housing and our partner, Mercy House, and the result is a spectacular development that provides stellar service to its residents and the Santa Ana community.
