From a small gathering of 60 in 2015 to more than 190 team members this year – including participants from Texas and third-party managed communities – CORE Wars has grown into one of National CORE’s most anticipated and meaningful traditions. Held at Big Al’s, this year’s event brought our incredible maintenance staff together for a day of fun, food and recognition – honoring the individuals who are often the first connection residents have to our communities.
The energy was electric from the moment attendees arrived, greeted with CORE swag, custom banners and a prize display that would rival any game show. From Apple Watches and TVs to YETI coolers and power tools, more than $15,000 in raffle prizes and gift cards were given away. Throughout the day, team members bonded over bowling, shuffleboard, pool and ping pong – friendly competitions that reflected the same teamwork and spirit they bring to their communities every day. A buffet lunch and shared laughter made for a memorable afternoon.
But the real heart of CORE Wars was the recognition of excellence. Frank Taiese, vice president of Maintenance and Capital Improvements, reminded us why this day matters: “CORE Wars is our way to show our appreciation of the hard work done by our maintenance team. They are the front line to our residents and they are critical in making our apartments homes.” This year, 21 Best in Class awards were handed out – each presented with a trophy, a $100 gift and a personalized tribute. Longtime team member Beau Roberson was also honored for his remarkable 20 years of service. Congratulations to all our honorees!
