Chief Development Officer Alexa Washburn took the stage at the Building Faith in Housing workshop on May 8 to spotlight one of a powerful new partnership in affordable housing: faith-based organizations.

Hosted at our own Santa Angelina senior community in Placentia, the event gathered developers, policymakers, health leaders and faith communities to discuss Senate Bill 4 (SB 4), a game-changing law that opens new opportunities for religious institutions and nonprofit colleges to build affordable housing on their land.

Alexa led a powerful panel featuring nonprofit leaders, financial experts, elected officials and clergy members, sharing National CORE’s groundbreaking experience in working hand in hand with churches and other faith-based organizations.

She emphasized that these collaborations extend well beyond land, with faith-based organizations often staying involved through construction, offering emotional and spiritual support and providing residents with essentials like food, bedding and a sense of belonging.

“National CORE has completed five successful affordable housing communities in collaboration with faith-based organizations, and we have several more in our pipeline,” Alexa said. “I believe these communities have been so well-received because our mission aligns – to serve the most vulnerable with compassion, dignity and purpose.”

As National CORE continues to expand its reach, events like this show how innovative thinking and deep-rooted partnerships are making it possible to bring hope to more communities than ever before.
