Tammy Griffin’s office door is always open. Residents eagerly greet her as they pass, calling her name and vigorously waving as she flashes a warm smile. This is the trust and appreciation Tammy has carefully cultivated as National CORE’s Mission Village Senior’s community manager.
Since 2014, Tammy has been the person who keeps the senior community running. She has been more than a property manager – she has been a maintenance technician, a services coordinator, and, to many of her residents, family.
For her commitment to delivering the highest quality service and always striving to do more, Tammy received the National CORE’s Best-in-Class employee award for the second quarter.
“I love it here,” she said. “My residents help each other and help me – it’s amazing. We are community oriented.”
Tammy’s journey began as a volunteer while living at a National CORE property in Riverside. Looking for a change in pace, she became an unofficial and unpaid assistant to the manager at her community’s leasing office.
Tammy’s volunteerism soon grew into a part-time position. There, she developed her knowledge in the affordable housing realm, launching what would become a 20-year career with National CORE.
She has since been a property manager for Mission Pointe and, for the last 10 years, has made Mission Village her home and workplace.
“I don’t want people messing with my seniors, so I do my best to make them feel at home and cared for,” Tammy said.
Her intimate understanding the financial restrictions that challenge our senior populations led Tammy to find ways to boost the number of voucher recipients at Mission Village, climbing from seven to 54 – more than half of the 102 apartments at the community.
Tammy also assists other property management teams with lease-ups, most recently at Vista de la Sierra, and rehabs like the Corona properties.
“I love a good challenge,” she said. “And the best thing about this job is that even after 20 years, no day is the same – I am never done learning.”
Dana McDaniel, regional director of property management, praised Tammy’s commitment to her residents.
“Tammy is a phenomenal woman and property manager,” Dana said. “Her impact on the residents is extraordinary. She makes them feel at home and cared for – she takes the time to help them sign up for different social services, she is their family.”
Congratulations, Tammy, and thank you for all your hard work!
