The Hispanic Latino Affinity Group kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a townhall conversation about the immense impact Latinos have had on modern society – followed by some savory tacos provided by The Taco Man.

Hispanic Heritage Month, which began Sept. 15, is a nod to anniversaries of national independence for several Latin American countries to honor those with roots in Spanish-speaking nations.

This year, HLAG welcomed Andres Chavez, grandson of Cesar Chavez, renowned Mexican American champion of farm workers and civil rights activist, who spoke about his grandfather’s legacy.

The celebration was a team effort among Assistant Community Manager Amber Tully, Project Manager Chris Paez, Project Development Administrative Assistant Anabel Sanchez and Hope through Housing Regional Director Stephanie De La Torre.

“The experience of listening to Andres speak about his grandfather and witnessing his tireless effort to carry on his legacy was undeniably inspiring,” Amber said. “It made an impact, igniting a newfound admiration for the strength and determination of attaining his objective. Viva la causa!”
