Accounting Managers Eric Grimes and Mei Stanford are always in the midst of the “busy season,” whether the accounting department is successfully navigating an audit or ensuring the smooth day-to-day financial management of National CORE’s considerable communities.

Mei and Eric are charged with managing teams of accountants to track cashflow for rent, manage payroll for employees and maintain records of financial data for taxes. They work under Controller Tom Pentolino and Assistant Controller Shelly Anthony.

Eric said he takes pride in seeing his work result in financial stability for others, giving people a secure place to live and work.

“It’s very rewarding to be part of National CORE,” Eric said. “It’s one thing to hear messages about the good one’s company does, but I get to see it being done in person. I did the accounting for so many communities, but I got to physically see the people who live there and work there and how it changes people’s lives.”

Eric has more than 10 years of experience as a property and real estate accountant and will be celebrating his two-year anniversary at National CORE at the start of 2024. He holds a bachelor’s degree in science technical management from DeVry University and dual master’s degrees in accounting and financial management and business administration as well as a graduate certificate in accounting – all from Keller Graduate School of Management. He also served as a unit supply specialist in the U.S. Army from 1992 to 1995 before joining the Army Reserves.

Eric is responsible for the accounting of 35 properties, which includes more than 2,700 homes. In his free time, Eric enjoys learning Spanish, reading books, hiking and spending time with his wife and four sons.

Mei boasts more than 20 years of experience in accounting and also will be celebrating her two-year National CORE anniversary in early 2024. Born in Taiwan, Mei holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Cal State LA. When she’s not leading her accounting team, Mei enjoys going on nature walks with her husband and three daughters.

Mei’s career has led her to various accounting roles for businesses in fashion, telecommunications and even outdoor recreation products. Mei oversees accountant duties for 34 properties, which include more than 3,200 homes. She said National CORE’s efficiency is due to experienced employees who enjoy working together.

“I think everybody in the accounting department works well with each other,” Mei said. “It’s a great group.”

Since the start of 2023, Mei, Eric and the accounting team have handled the financial operations of five newly launched properties with four more expected before the end of the year.
