National CORE leaders are crediting a strong partnership with the City of Santa Ana for paving the way for an innovative affordable housing community that has earned a prestigious 2023 Sustainability Award from the Southern California Association of Governments.

The city received SCAG’s Housing Innovation Award earlier this month for Legacy Square, a 93-unit transit-oriented affordable housing community developed by National CORE. Legacy Square includes 30 one-bedroom homes, 39 two-bedroom homes and 24 three-bedroom homes, as well as more than 1,750 square feet of ground-level flexible space and a 3,800-square-foot community center. Offsite elements feature almost $10 million in sustainable transportation improvements, including bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements for safer routes to school, a pocket park, street trees and funding to promote public transit.
